Pain - Jim Morrison Quote
“People are afraid of themselves, of their own reality; their feelings most of all. People talk about how great love is, but that's bullshit. Love hurts. Feelings are disturbing. People are taught that pain is evil and dangerous. How can they deal with love if they're afraid to feel? Pain is meant to wake us up. People try to hide their pain. But they're wrong. Pain is something to carry, like a radio. You feel your strength in the experience of pain. It's all in how you carry it. That's what matters. Pain is a feeling. Your feelings are a part of you. Your own reality. If you feel ashamed of them, and hide them, you're letting society destroy your reality. You should stand up for your right to feel your pain.” - Jim Morrison

"Breaking Out", and notes
I'm done with your names
I am done with your games

Prejudice in disguise
-Just look into my eyes

It is natural to label
I am guilty and able

"Stupid housies", "She wears pink", "He drives a car"
Don't fit a mold? Then you'll never be on par.

I hug trees, and I drink teas
I will do as I please

Do hippies tweak, or geeks swim in creeks?
Short hair, long hair, what is really there?

So withdraw your opinion,
of my life and religion

First impressions are what they are
Let go of them if they mar

I'll be first to say it
I am a hypocrite
Help me get over it

So don't park your Hummer
It will be a bummer
Without windows

I'll try not to get carried away
Go to Starbucks and get your par-fet
Don't worry about me, I'll just say
"Oh well"

I am not perfect, but I will do my best
Though I may still jest, about those yuppie pests

At least your car isn't burning.

This poem definitely did not turn out as intended. Everyone is looking for the same thing, we are all doing the best we can with what we have learned in life and what we have. When I look at individuals this is easy enough to accept. These are my friends and family. But when I look at larger market trends, the media and life style choices (usually at the cost of those less fortunate), I can't help but be disgusted.

It is difficult for me to be completely accepting because I am not sure where to properly draw the line between our duty to be socially responsible and the freedom to live life the way we wish.

Hare Krishna
I empty my head of expectations
The foundation of all illusions

I count my beads
-One, Two, Three

My spine is erect
No need to protect

I don't need delusion
Or more confusion

No fear for tomorrow
Never again borrow

From the sacred moment.

My Garden
My hands sift the earth
-the rich warm soil

I breathe in deeply
life's sweet embrace

I know why I toil
-my friends I will spoil

And if all goes well,
For weeks we will tell

Of wonderful meals shared.

It Takes Two
Time will tell
What words truly mean

Lovers will tease
As friends may leave

No one is to blame
Lest anyone feel shame
For the impermanence of all things

Let's take a vow, to take intention at face value

A Case For Reading Fiction
I have always been an avid reader of fantasy. Such books provide a universe in which you can get away from physics, where magic exists and the awesome is possible. It is infinitely better than watching most of the garbage on TV.But aside from all of this, a good author will also impart his life experience and simulate the implementation of various ethical and philosophical systems. I have spent a large amount of time re-reading Terry Goodkind's Sword of Truth series, and to demonstrate my point I will share the 'Wizard's Rules', you can find more on Wikipedia or on fan sites if you would like further elaboration:

Wizard's First Rule (from Wizard's First Rule): "People are stupid. [...] They will believe a lie because they want to believe it's true, or because they are afraid it might be true."
Wizard's Second Rule (from Stone of Tears): "The greatest harm can result from the best intentions."
Wizard's Third Rule (from Blood of the Fold): "Passion rules reason, for better or for worse."
Wizard's Fourth Rule (from Temple of the Winds): "There is magic in forgiveness, the magic to heal. In forgiveness you grant, but more so, in forgiveness you receive."
Wizard's Fifth Rule (from Soul of the Fire): "Mind what people do, not only what they say, for deeds will betray a lie."
Wizard's Sixth Rule (from Faith of the Fallen): "[T]he only sovereign you can allow to rule you is reason"
Wizard's Seventh Rule (from The Pillars of Creation): "Life is the future, not the past."
Wizard's Eighth Rule (from Naked Empire): "Deserve victory." (Translated from "Talga Vassternich").
Wizard's Ninth Rule (from Chainfire): "A contradiction cannot exist in reality. Not in part, nor in whole."
Wizard's Tenth Rule (from Phantom): "Willfully turning aside from the truth is treason to one's self."

May Sleep Take Me Quickly...
A princess can feel the pea
I'm no prince but I have fleas

I want to sleep
Can't get a peep
Counting sheep?

I'd rather be outdoors
Where my spirit soars

Watching the stars come unhidden
And sleep always comes unbidden

History repeats itself
Time heals all things because it gives us perspective. Heartache (and love) is always the same. This doesn't directly invalidate it but once we understand that we have experienced it and overcome it, thus proving it does go away, then it loses its omnipotence.

After this realisation occurs, we are left to analyse the experience on its own merits.

Grandfather Tree
I climb into your twisted arms
-"Touch the sky, child of the earth"

You are so firm and hold me tightly
Yet I grasp and need security

Your touch is cool
And brings me peace

I squeal with joy for the world is my toy
Though I am just a boy with a bird's eye view

I thank you quietly
As I step softly

Lest I break your tender branches

Ninette "lux corner"
You can talk your trash
It won't make you cash

Spout your revisionist history
People are not blind
Like a campaign for presidency
Truth is on my side

Of course you will win
People are your lens

They will let you wallow
In pity
Sheeple like to swallow

That does not make you right
Your life is not a fight

I fell for it awhile
But you are full of bile

You knew I only date vegetarians
Go eat your fish Miss Pescatarian

I don't really care she's a pescatarian, but I do care that she is tarnishing my name in my absence. What I find most interesting is I don't really feel angry right now, and when I do it is more because I expect myself to feel angry. But my head just feels off from drinking last night and I am smoking a cigarette.
